
Opening the 2022 season on Saturday at home, the Lady Marshals beat Hickman County 5-1 on five hits.
Head Coach Mallory Newton begins her fifth season with the Lady Marshals who finished 25-13 last year, advancing to the Region 1 Tournament semi-finals.
The Lady Marshals scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning on a single by senior Charley Pursley. Hickman County tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning on an Allie Allen single but the Lady Marshals reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run hit by freshman Allicen Harris.
They put the game away with a 3-run bottom of the fifth that began with Chevelle Henson and Chloe Coursey leading off with singles. A single by Pursley scored both base runners and a sacrifice by Anna Vasseur brought in Pursley for the final run.
Pursley went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Lady Marshals at the plate and the win went to sophomore Gracelyn Darnall who allowed two hits and one run over four innings.
This week, the Lady Marshals have full slate of games starting with at home on Monday against Trigg County. Tuesday they play at Graves County, Thursday at Livingston Central and back home on Friday against Massac County. Next weekend they will play two games on Saturday in the McCracken County Early Bird Tournament.
