Born Friday, December 21, 1928 in Perryville, TN, he was the son of the late Robert Andrew Sewell, Sr. and the late Dona (Counce) Sewell.
He was a 1947 graduate of Calvert City High School and a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from National Carbide where he was a electrician for 38 years. Leroy was a member of Calvert City First Baptist Church where he served as deacon for over 50 years, was a Sunday school teacher, part of the ABC Club and the senior choir.
Leroy was a handyman and could do anything, one of his favorite things was playing with his grandkids. He enjoyed going for daily walks often walking 3 miles at a time and gardening. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan as well as UK Wildcats.
He is survived by his son, Danny Sewell wife Sandra of Gilbertsville, KY; daughter, Anna Hodge husband Billy of Calvert City, KY; grandchildren, Miranda Burnett husband Dustin of Nolensville, TN, Aaron Smith wife Crystal of Calvert City, KY, Ben Sewell wife Destiny of Louisville, KY, Adam Smith wife Annette of Calvert City, KY, Amanda Shelly husband Ryan of Paducah, KY; and great grandchildren, Cohen Burnett, Drake Burnett, Sloan Burnett, Liam Sewell, Tate Sewell, Kenadie Smith, Austin Smith, Zoe Smith, Amber Almon husband Alex and Elijah Hodge wife Makayla.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, June Rose (Blankenship) Sewell; his parents; brother, Robert “Bob” Andrew Sewell, Jr.; sisters, Wilma Farmer and Laura Smith.
A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Collier Funeral Home, located at 211 West 5th St. Benton, KY 42025 with Rev. Randy Blankenship officiating.
Interment will follow in Dees Cemetery, Calvert City, KY.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, March 21, 2022, at Collier Funeral Home.
