MSU receives at-large invite in first postseason bid since 2008-09
After a 22-8 regular season record and a win in the OVC tournament, one of the most remarkable seasons in recent memory for the Murray State women’s basketball history will continue as the Racers found out Sunday that they received an at-large bid to the 2022 Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
Murray will play Vanderbilt (14-18) on March 17 at 7:00 p.m. CST in Nashville at Memorial Gymnasium. The game will air locally on WBZB 104.5 FM and nationally on SEC Network+.
Sunday’s selection will mark the fourth appearance in the WNIT for Murray State, last appearing in the tournament in the 2008-09. The Racers also made a WNIT appearance in 2006-07 and an appearance in the NWIT, the precursor to the WNIT, in 1988-89.
The Racers 2021-22 season has been one for the record books, as Murray State tied its record for regular-season wins with 21. For the second straight season, the Racers advanced to the OVC semifinals in 2021-22 and have now won an OVC tournament game in back-to-back years for the first time since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Individually, she coached sophomore Katelyn Young to OVC Player of the Year honors and saw a school-record four Racers receive All-OVC honors.
