to share in the 1st Operation Preparation and Career Exploration Day. Sophomores participated in rotations to explore career opportunities, with community leaders presenting. The students enjoyed their time with community members and had many questions answered regarding specific career paths and fields. Special thanks to the following who presented career fields for the program this year: Army National Guard, Baptist Health, Department for Juvenile Justice, Dianna Riddick, Attorney At Law, Donohoo & Associates PLLC, Gold Rush, Housman Realty, IBEW Local 816, Ky Lake Properties LLC, Market House Theater, Marshall County Schools, Palpation Prep Massage School, PRO Physical Therapy, Smith Management Solutions LLC
SMS Holdings LLC, Twin Lakes Mooring, LLC UK Agriculture Extension Service, United Systems, UPS, and Wacker Chemical Corporation.
Freshmen completed activities with KyCareer Edge, a free online career exploration and soft skills building curriculum. Mr. Jeremy A. Taylor, a motivational speaker and leadership developer from Somerset, KY spoke to the Freshmen and Sophomore classes and encouraged them to “Finish the Year Strong”. His message of positivity, uplifting thoughts and challenge to the students was well received and students were excited to be able to hear and meet Mr. Taylor.
Community business owner, Treston Smith, who presented for Operation Preparation said, “I really enjoyed my time with the students. It was exciting to discuss business scenarios and situations with them. I was surprised at how many students were aware of several crucial business philosophies and ideas. I thought it was rewarding to tell the students that I sat in the same school seat as them 17 years ago and have built a very successful business portfolio right here in Marshall County. All too often students think that they have to move to larger urban areas in order to have business success and that certainly is not true. I wish the students all the best in their future business endeavors.”
The program was brought together by Marshall County Schools Community Education Director, Jasey Harper; Marshall Mission Youth Service Center Assistant, Paige Buchanan, Coordinator Beth Baker and the tremendous support of the Marshall County High School and Technical Center Staff.
Marshall Mission Youth Service Center is located at Marshall County High School and has an advisory board that meets every other month on the second Monday at 8:30 am. For questions, please contact: beth.baker@marshall.kyschools.us
