
Sylvia Rucks, age 86, of Paducah, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Providence Pointe Nursing Home with her daughters by her side.
Sylvia Minor Rucks was born in Metropolis, IL on November 12, 1935 to the late Ike and Iona Minor. Sylvia worked for Baptist Health, formerly Western Baptist Hospital, for 35 years. She was a lifelong member of Southland Baptist Temple and recently attended Cherry Street Pentecostal Church in Metropolis.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Rucks of Paducah and Carla Deasel (Ronnie) of Metropolis; two grandchildren, Eric Deasel (Courtney) of Metropolis and Kelly Deasel (Nikolaj) of Nashville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Jude Deasel, both of Metropolis. Sylvia was also survived by family friend, Kathie Farrell; one brother-in-law, Charlie Rucks; and two sister-in-laws, Rosemary Dillworth and Jo Ann Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Rucks; one son, David Rucks; and her beloved sister, Janie Martin of Metropolis. She was also preceded in death by one half-sister, Lorene Tolan and one-half brother, George Minor.
The family would like to thank the staff of Providence Pointe, especially Misty Massey and Lindsay Rutherford for the care and comfort they provided these last eight months; to the many nurses and social workers from Mercy Health Hospice, notably, Mary Jett and Rudina Durbin; and Carla Franklin, Respiratory Therapist of Baptist Health.
The family also wants to express heartfelt gratitude to Judy Powell and Mary Adkins for the love they showered on their mother. Welcome to our family.
A funeral service for Sylvia will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Pastor Nate Hillebrand officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM until service time 2:00 PM on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
