Marshals will meet Butler in Campbellsville Holiday Classic championship

Cole Mills, pictured in the Marshals Dec. 4 Hoopfest game, has led in scoring in both wins of the Holiday Classic over Taylor County and Madison Southern with 23 and 22 points.

While the Lady Marshals are underway in the championship of their holiday tournament in Bowling Green, the Marshals (7-3) will tip off in the championship of the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic after advancing on wins over Taylor County 73-53 and Madison Southern 72-53.

Ten of Cole Mills team-leading 23 points in the win over Taylor County, out of Region 5, came in the first quarter to push the Marshals early lead to 21-13. They outscored the Cardinals 15-7 in the second quarter to lead 36-20 at halftime, led in the half by Kole Sedlock’s 14 points.

A 6-0 start to the second half for Taylor County cut the Marshals lead to 10 and it would get no closer. The Marshals finished out the third quarter up 55-41 on a buzzer-beater by Talon Smothers.

Mills with a three-point play early in the fourth stretched the lead out to 20 which held up in the 73-53 final score.

Kole Sedlock combined for 38 points in the Marshals two wins of the Campbellsville Holiday Classic leading up to Thursday’s championship game against Butler.

Mills and Sedlock combined for 42 points in the Marshals semi-final win over Region 11’s Madison Southern (8-4). Jumping out to an early 10-2 lead on four points each from Mills and Sedlock and a field goal from Quinn Smith, the Marshals lead was 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The lead grew to 17 points at halftime and 24 points at the end of three quarters. The Eagles outscored the Marshals by five in the final frame to cut the Marshals 24-point lead coming into the final eight minutes down to 19 points at the final buzzer.

Jay Rose led Madison Southern with 22 points.

Thursday’s championship game against Louisville’s Butler Bears (8-5) tips off at 6:00 (CST). Butler advanced with wins over Scott County 84-63 and Glasgow 89-77. Led in both games by seniors Mershon Dickerson with 34 points in the win over Scott County and Chavez Woods with 25 points in the Glasgow win.
