Benton, KY – On Thursday, November 4, 2021, Detective Captain Matt Hilbrecht will announce his candidacy for the office of Marshall County Sheriff during a kick-off event to be held at Main Street Event Center in Benton, KY between 4pm-6pm, where he will sign official election papers and speak to attendees.
With more than 20 years in law enforcement, Captain Hilbrecht has demonstrated his commitment to the citizens of Marshall County through his dedication and excellence in service, with notable endorsements by current Marshall County Sheriff Eddie McGuire, Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden, McCracken County Sheriff Matt Carter, and Calloway County Sheriff Nicky Knight.
“Serving in law enforcement has been an honor, and I owe a great debt to many people over the years who have shaped me into the man, officer and leader I am today,” said Hilbrecht. “While I have seen the destructive nature of criminal activity during my tenure, I have also seen the good in people, and it is my hope that I can continue to serve the good people of Marshall County as a sheriff who leads and listens.”
Captain Hilbrecht began his career as a Patrol Deputy in 1999 under Sheriff Terry Anderson, and has risen through the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office serving as Deputy, Detective, Detective Sergeant, Detective Lieutenant, Detective Captain, Patrol Captain, Special Response Team Operator, and Special Response Team Leader. Hilbrecht retired from the Sheriff’s Office with 20 years of service in 2019, but later returned to the Sheriff’s Office that same year to continue his work in investigations.
“Law enforcement was a childhood dream that I have been fortunate to see realized. My heart is in
protecting and serving this community, and this is the next step in fulfilling that dream,” Hilbrecht said. “I look forward to connecting with people on the campaign trail, and serving them for years to come.”
The event is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
