
Marshall County’s girls’ and boys’ cross country teams are headed to the KHSAA Cross Country State Championships after both finished in the top six at Saturday’s Class 3A Region 1 meet at Muhlenberg County. The girls finished an impressive third place and the boys placed sixth with PR’s scattered throughout both teams. It will be the sixth consecutive year for the boys and third for the girls to advance to the state meet.
Leading the Lady Marshals was freshman Addison Lyles with a sixth place finish in 20:44.85. Following Lyles in the next two spots for the team were eighth graders Eden Sandlin in 14th with her time of 21:16.44 and Anne Marie Peffer finishing 28th in 22:55.90. Katelyn Ringstaff placed 34 in 23:11.79, Elizabeth Barrett placed 36th in 23:32.49, Leah Vincek 37th in 23:33.10 and Olivia Hibbs finished 61st in 26:49.74.
Freshman Lucy Spaw from Daviess County took first with a 5K time of 19:03.54 to lead her team to a first place finish. Graves County finished second, Madisonville-North Hopkins fourth behind the Lady Marshals, Hopkinsville fifth and Apollo sixth. All six teams qualified for the state meet.
Junior Ethan McCarty led the Marshals with a fifth place finish, stopping the clock in 16:48.60. Cade Flatt finished 12th with a time of 17:09.91 followed by Sawyer Collins in 42nd with 17:09.91. Walker Jones finished 42nd in 18:47.58, Dallas Sutherland 44th in 19:05.49, Jett Sealock was 45th in 19:08.54 and Keifer Siress finished 62nd in 20:56.03.
Apollo junior Thomas Ashby finished first with a time of 15:40.91 to lead Apollo to the team win. The next five teams advancing to state – Daviess County in second place, Madisonville-North Hopkins with third, McCracken County in fourth, Graves County fifth and the Marshals in sixth.
The Class 3A KHSAA Cross Country State Championships will take place Saturday at Bourbon County Park in Paris, Ky. The girls will run at 3:00 Eastern Standard Time followed by the boys at 4:00.
