Track and Field ready to compete at state meet on Saturday

Track and Field athletes (L-R) Sophie Galloway, Cade Flatt and Tori McCracken look to continue their state meet success on Saturday in Lexington.

Twenty members of the Marshall County track team head to Lexington this weekend to compete in the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships. The Class 3A meet takes place on Saturday starting at 10:00 am(EST) at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.

Despite missing out on the 2019 track and field season and state meet, many Marshall County athletes are making repeat trips to state.

Senior Sophie Galloway will look to repeat state titles in three events from 2019 in the hurdles, long jump and triple jump. She won both the long jump and triple jump in 2018 as a freshman. Galloway’s 100 meter hurdles time of 14.33 and triple jump of 41-3.25 both rank first in the state. She will be adding a fourth event, the 200 meters, at Saturday’s state meet.

Cade Flatt finished second in 2019 as a freshman in the 800 meters. His time of 1:51.76 set on April 23rd is the fastest time in the state this season.

Senior Tori McCracken will look to win her third straight state title in the high jump.

The community is invited to a send-off for the athletes on Friday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the high school.
