Marshall County track and field athlete, Chase Thompson, signed on Friday to continue his track and academic career at Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana. Thompson will compete for Head Coach Brian Cashdollar as part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III.
Chase specializes in throws and has been a member of the Marshall County team for four years. This season he has been a force in the ring – ranked in the top five in shot put all season.
“Chase is our second guy to commit this season and I know he will take full advantage of the opportunity and will undoubtedly continue his success at the next level”, Head Coach Andrew Johnston said. “I could not be more proud. Chase came to us as a two-sport freshman and has embodied what it means to be a student athlete. He is focused, determined, respectful, highly motivated and a genuine person.”
Johnston added that there are days when they have to trust the guys up on “the hill” to be self-motivated and put in the work, but has never had to worry about Chase, saying – “He is a tireless worker and dedicated to the sport.”
Chase credits many with his development including Coach Johnston, Coach Michelle Metcalf and Coach Steve Etheridge. Also his current and former teammates Caleb Hassa, Joey Colley, Chase Chambers, Teddy Wynn and Noah McClure. Most of all, he thanks his parents for their support.
“Chase’s contributions to the program have been outstanding, but he is not finished yet”, Johnston said. “We expect huge things from him during this championship portion of the season. Our goal here at Marshall County track is to ‘leave your mark’ and there isn’t any doubt of the impact Chase has had on this team.”
