
After shutting out Graves County 13-0, the Lady Marshals took care of district business last Tuesday by beating Murray 19-4 after losing to the Lady Tigers 6-2 in the season opener. Over the weekend, they played three games in the Owensboro Catholic Classic and sandwiched a win in between two losses.
The #17 ranked Lady Marshals fell to #8 Henderson County 10-4, beat #11 Warren East 14-6 in the first of two games on Saturday and lost to #3 Lafayette 12-5.
Six games on tap this week start on Tuesday at home against Calloway County and Thursday at home against McCracken County before four games next weekend in the Best of the West in Bowling Green.
Against Murray last Tuesday, the Lady Marshals had a comfortable 7-1 lead over the Lady Tigers but a huge 12-run top of the seventh gave them the 19-4 win on 21 hits.
Cayson Conner led at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, home run and five RBIs – her 3-run home run came in the top of the seventh to make it a 12-2 game. Riley Piercefield was 3-for-5 with five RBIs, Sarenna Tomassi 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Charley Pursley was 4-for-5 with an RBI and Anna Vasseur 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Angela Gierhart was big for Murray, the senior was 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs.
Gabbi Lovett earned the win over five innings of work, allowing five hits, one run and struck out one.

Friday evening in their first game of the Owensboro Catholic Classic against Henderson County, the Lady Marshals fell behind 3-1 after three innings and 8-1 after the Lady Colonels put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth and rolled on to win 10-4 with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Cayson Conner was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and McKenzie Elkins 3-for-1 with an RBI. Leading Henderson, Anna Willett was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Winning pitcher was Kelsie Hill who allowed nine hits, four runs and struck out two.

In Saturday’s noon game of the Owensboro Catholic Classic, the Lady Marshals beat Warren East 14-6. Six runs in the bottom of the first and four in the bottom of the second gave them a big 10-2 lead. Warren East scored four runs in the top of the fourth to threaten but the rally came up short.
McKenzie Elkins went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs, Sarenna Tomassi was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Cayson Conner 2-for-3 with an RBI and Pea with a hit and three RBIs. Tia Thorpe earned the win over three and two thirds innings, allowing 10 hits, six runs and struck out one. Gabbi Lovett pitched two innings in relief, allowing one hit with one strike out.

Third ranked Lafayette topped the Lady Marshals 12-5 in the afternoon game on Saturday. The Lady Marshals led off with a run in the top of the first but a 3-run bottom of the inning followed by a 5-run bottom of the third by Lafayette led to an early 8-1 lead by the Generals.
Trailing 10-1 going into the top of the fifth, the Lady Marshals notched four runs in part on a two run single by Presley Jezik to cut the Lafayette lead to 10-5. A two run triple by Madison Johnson in the bottom of the inning sealed their 12-5 win.
Their seven hits came from Purlsey with three and one each by Jezik, Piercefield, Tomassi and Elkins.
Lafayette (16-1) was led by Madison Johnson 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Jenna Wells 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
