Marshals secure #1 seed in 4th District Tournament

Zion Harmon led the Marshals with a combined 52 points in their last two wins over St. Mary and Calloway County.

Following wins over St. Mary on Friday and Calloway County on Saturday, the Marshals are on a six game win streak and will close out the regular season at home on Thursday against Christian Fellowship (19-7).

They topped St. Mary 71-49 behind 32 points from Zion Harmon. They led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter and the back and forth battle continued through the second, and the lead was 32-28 at halftime. The Marshals out-scored St. Mary 39-21 in the second half on their way to the 22 point win.

The Marshals avenged their 75-74 loss on Jan. 15 to Calloway County, beating the Lakers 62-52 on Saturday to secure the #1 seed in the 4th District Tournament and a spot in the 1st Region Tournament.

Calloway County’s first win over the Marshals this season was fueled by 12 made 3-pointers and 23 points by Matthew Ray. Saturday, Ray was held to five points and the Lakers to five 3-pointers.

Harmon led the Marshall County scoring again with 20 points followed by 15 from Quinn Smith. Evan Garrison led Calloway County with 28 points.

In just 11 games played, Harmon’s average of 23.6 points per game ranks 27th in the state among the top 50 scoring leaders.

The Marshals led 27-20 at halftime and stretched it out to 41-29 at the end of the third quarter. The Lakers out-scored them 23-21 in the fourth to cut the deficit down to 10 at the final buzzer.

Calloway County will play Murray on Sunday at 3:00 in the 4th District semi final. The winner will meet the Marshals on Monday in the title game at 8:00 at Murray State’s CFSB Center.
