Southwestern ends Lady Marshals 18 game win streak

Halle Langhi led with 15 points and nine rebounds in the Lady Marshals loss to Southwestern on Saturday. It was just their second loss of the season after losing their season-opener at Bethlehem.

Going into Saturday’s final regular season game against Southwestern, the Lady Marshals only loss was in their first game against Bethlehem 67-60. Southwestern handed them just their second loss to finish out the regular season 18-2 while also holding the Lady Marshals to their lowest point total.

Southwestern led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter and held the Lady Marshals to six points in the second to lead 25-13 at halftime. Still down by 10 heading into the fourth quarter, a Lady Marshals 10-0 run tied the game at 36-36 but it was followed by a 12-3 Southwestern run to finish out the Lady Warriors 48-39 win.

Halle Langhi led the Lady Marshals with 15 points and nine rebounds. Southwestern (16-3) was led in scoring by Kaylee Young and Ayden Smiddy with 12 points each.

As of Monday, Mar. 9, Langhi ranks 32nd in the state among the top 50 free throw leaders at 79.1% in 18 games played with 53/67. Jada Driver is 32nd in the state among 3-point leaders with 49/108 and her 45.4% in 20 games played is second-best in the state. As a team, the Lady Marshals rank second in Kentucky in points allowed per game, fourth in margin of points per game, fifth in field goals and eighth in 3-pointers.

With the #1 seed in the district, the Lady Marshals will play the winner of Saturday’s 4th District Tournament semi-final between Murray and Calloway County in Monday’s championship game at 5:30. The district tournament will be played at the Murray State CFSB Center.
