Monday’s 56-41 win at home over Dawson Springs puts the Lady Eagles record at 10-9, achieving a goal the team set for themselves going into the season and stretches their win-streak to four games.

“It’s good to get a win”, Coach Trevor Jackson said. “It’s the 10th win of the season so this is the third year in a row we’ve hit double digit wins. We talked about it…we wanted to finish above .500.”

This was their second game against Dawson Springs, winning 61-41 over the Lady Panthers on Feb. 22, and it looked like they might increase that winning margin after taking a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, led by eight points from Alyssa Warren and six from Lillian Burnett.

The Lady Panthers scored the first four points of the second quarter to cut the CFS lead down to 10. Jayden Jackson, Rhema Howard, Warren and Gracie Howard combined for the next 10 points to stretch the lead out to 15 points at 30-15 and the lead was 33-16 at halftime.

With an 18 point lead in the third quarter, Abby Ward dropped in two 3-pointers for Dawson Springs to cut the lead down to 12 points and they trailed CFS by 14 heading into the final frame.

Burnett started off the fourth with a three point play followed by a 3-pointer from Gracie Howard. The two scored all 16 of the Lady Eagles points in the quarter – Burnett with nine and Howard seven – to finish off the 15 point win.

“One thing I kept talking about was finishing the game off”, Jackson said. “Not to ever embarrass an opponent, but to get a lead comfortable enough where we can play some more people and we get up 22 and they get it back down to 12. That’s a credit to Coach Scott and the way she works those girls. They don’t ever quit no matter what the scoreboard says.”

Jackson said they’ve been playing their best basketball of the year the last two weeks, in part with a more concerted effort on the rebounding side of the ball.

Tuesday they play at Calloway County, then take on Ballard Memorial on Friday hoping to avenge their Feb. 20 overtime loss to the Lady Bombers. They finish up this week on Saturday against University Heights.

“It doesn’t get any easier after that”, Jackson said. “We’ve got CCA on Monday which is our arch rival and then we go to Lyon and University Heights again. So we’ve got six games left and our goal is to win them all.”
