Craig Alan Bass, age 62, of Paducah, KY (formerly of Metropolis, IL) passed away at 2:06 A.M. on Monday, February 1, 2021 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
Craig was born on December 31, 1958 to Gene and Wilma Bass. Craig was a 1977 graduate of Metropolis High School and a 1979 graduate of Shawnee Community College. During his career, he worked at Missouri Portland Cement Plant/Lafarge Corporation from where he retired after 35 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking with one of his close friends, Jim Wells. Craig was a faithful member of Heartland Church in Paducah, KY.
Craig is survived by his wife of 41 years, Theresa; his two children, Andrea (Matt) Moore of Paducah, KY and Jake (Kristy) Bass of Sumter, SC; seven grandchildren, McCall, Brody, Jaxon, Easton, Avery, Taylor (fiancé, Alex) and Matthew (Makayla). He is also survived by his mother, Wilma Bass of Metropolis, IL, brother, Monte (Dakin) Bass of Metropolis, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Bass.
One of the greatest joys of Craig’s life was being “Papa” to his seven grandchildren. He especially enjoyed watching his oldest granddaughter play golf, attending his grandsons’ ballgames and traveling the world to spend time with his children and grandchildren. During much of his adult life, he coached Khoury League baseball and basketball and assisted with the Massac County High School football team when his favorite player, Jake Bass, was on the team. To this day, he had remained friends with the youth that he coached over the years. In addition, he and his wife traveled throughout the world with family and friends. He also had a passion for NASCAR racing, aviation and sports!
Craig was a mentor for many! He was a devout Christian and a fighter who never quit, regardless the odds. He was strong, he was positive and he was the exemplary role model for all who entered his life. Craig was one of those select individuals who gave of himself to family, friends and acquaintances. He was always willing to assist those in need, always there to lend a helping hand and always an active participant in the lives of those around him. He was a unique individual, one of those special people who has left his mark on all those lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.
Craig is now in the perfect place! A place where there is no pain…no worry…no sickness…no sadness, a place where joy, peace, happiness and love prevail. He is there now, that place where he shall live forever!
