Nimmo signs to play golf at Mississippi State

Jay Nimmo, joined by his parents Rickie and Annette, made his commitment to Mississippi State official on National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Jay Nimmo committed to Mississippi State in April 2019, but made it official on Wednesday when he signed his National Letter of Intent.

He began playing at the age of two and entering tournaments at five and has played in just over 300 tournament with 100 wins. He has been a member of the Marshall County golf team since the fifth grade and during those eight years has helped lead the Marshals to six state tournament appearances – a fourth place finish in 2019 and third place finish in 2020.

Jay is the two-time reigning state individual champion in 2019 and 2020. He was named Kentucky Mr. Golf in 2019 and earned the 2020 Golf House Kentucky Junior Player of the Year.

More high school honors include:
• Three-time Kentucky Golf Coaches First Team All-State (2018, 2019, 2020)
• Five-time All-Region Team for the First Region (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)
• Three-time First Region Player of the Year (2018, 2019, 2020)
• Three-time First Region Tournament Individual Champion (2018, 2019, 2020)

During his high school career Jay won 12 invitationals for a total of 17 of 70 events played. His eight year career scoring average was 73.9 while averaging 69.71 during his junior and senior seasons. During his senior season, versus all individuals, Jay had a winning percentage of 97.97%, won 965, lost 10 and tied 10.

Jay has played just as many tournaments outside of his high school career. He is currently ranked 38th overall in the nation and 16th in the Class of 2021 in the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) rankings. He is a two-time (2018, 2020) AJGA Rolex Junior All American and was named to the 2018 AJGA ACDS Junior All-Star Team. He has two AJGA wins and seven top 10 finishes.

Jay’s other accomplishments include:
• Two-time Drive, Chip and Putt finalists (2016, 2018) finished T4 and 3rd
• Three-time Irvin Cobb Tournament Junior Division winner
• Kentucky Middle School State Champion (2016)

Jay’s most recent award defines how he approaches the game. He was presented with the Cullan Brown Award at inaugural Cullen Brown Invitational. The award recognizes sportsmanship, playing ability, integrity, friendship and love of the game.

A well-rounded student-athlete, Jay excels in academics as well as on the basketball court.
