James Calvin Davis, age 77, died at 1:50am Monday, November 2, 2020 at Anna Mae Owen Hospice House in Murray, Kentucky.
James was born on March 26, 1943 in Cottage Hills, Illinois. He was the son of the late Paul Davis and Gertrude (Millentine) Herren. The late Leslie Durham was like a step-father to James and played a large role in raising him.
James and the former Verna J. McNish were married on February 6, 1965 in Cottage Hills. Verna passed away on August 2, 2016.
James worked for a sanitation company and Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto for a time. He then worked at a scrap metal company as a Laborer for several years, before retiring in 1995.
Fishing was one of James favorite things to do. Even though he had lost the use of his right arm, James still managed to pull in some big fish.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Barbara A. Davis, Donna J. Burt, and friend Nathaniel Huff, Laura & Michael Bosomworth; five grandchildren, James, Rachel, Joshua, Rebecca and Laura Beth; five great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by a step-sister, Sandra Kay.
A visitation for James will begin at 10:30 a.m. until service time at 12:30pm, Friday, November 6, 2020 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given to his daughter Donna. She had taken care of him throughout his illness until his pain could only be relieved at the Hospice House.
