Marshals top Calloway County 3-1

Between games in Thursday’s double-header, this year’s 12 Marshall County soccer seniors and manager were recognized.

The Marshals secured the top seed in the post-season district tournament with Thursday’s 3-1 win over Calloway County on Senior Night. Their record remains unblemished at 8-0 and they have out-scored their opponents in those eight game 40-3.

The 10 seniors above along with manager Nash Brasher (left) and Lady Marshals Maddie Darnall (left) and Whitley Watwood are (L-R) Tyler Treas, Kiefer Court, Pratik Patel, Nick Mighell, Caleb Nicholls, Ben Burkeen, Brady Miller, Parker Kerrick, Eric Hicks and Drake May.

Thursday’s game remained scoreless until under the two minute mark when junior William Lynch found the net from inside the box for a 1-0 halftime lead.

Senior Collin Riley scored the second goal in the 24th minute of the second half on a penalty kick. The Marshals went up 3-0 on a senior double-play when a direct kick taken by Eric Hicks was headed in by Drake May.

Moments later, May was called for a hand ball in the box and the penalty kick taken by Jude Bazzell was good to put the Lakers on the board and avoid the shutout.

Kiefer Court and Nick Mighell each had an assist and keeper Ben Burkeen had three saves.  Calloway County keeper Landon Houk had 13 saves.

The Marshals out-shot the Lakers 26-3 in the win.

Saturday at 11:00 a.m. they play Evansville Memorial at McCracken County High School.
