Mrs. Carol Ann York, 74, passed away at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, KY on Monday, May 11, 2020. She passed away peacefully after a long hard fight against the Covid-19 virus.
Carol is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Ed York of Hardin, KY; three children: a son, John A. York and wife Tracey Hancock York of Franklin, TN; a daughter Debbie Prather of Hardin, KY; a son Keith A. York of Hardin, KY, and her sisters, Donna Nicholay of Mio, MI, and Jennifer Maloney of Jackson, MI.
Six grandchildren; Aaron Dripps of Hardin, KY; Nichole Dripps of Benton, KY; Tim Dripps and wife Amber of Reidland, KY; Michael Dripps of Benton, KY; Kayla Carter and husband Jeremy of Elizabethton, TN; J.D. York of Franklin, TN.
Ten great-grandchildren: Isaac Dripps, James Dripps, Bailey Dripps, Brayden Day, Lily Day, Ella Isaacs, Amelia Dripps, Kyleigh Dripps, Sadie Hendrickson, Samuel Dripps.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lily Johnston of Walled Lake Ml; a brother Rick Johnston of Walled Lake, Ml; two sisters Jackie Hall of Phoenix, AZ. and Julie Dine of Walled Lake, Ml.
Carol was born on June 28, 1945 in Ferndale, Ml and was the second born daughter of Jack and Lily Johnston. She was a homemaker for many years in Michigan and after moving to Marshall County Kentucky in 1978 she got involved with her children in local 4H and marching band activities. Once her children graduated from high school she attended college at Brescia University and earned an Associate of Arts degree in Religious Education. She worked part-time in several businesses in Benton, KY and was an Activity Director for several years at Spring Creek formerly WestView Nursing Home in Murray, KY. She was a church secretary at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Aurora. KY, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Grand Rivers, KY and Educational Director at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Calvert City, KY. She sang in and led many church choir services. When she visited her Michigan sisters they loved to sing together no matter where they were at the time.
Carol was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devoted member of her local church and loved to teach the young children songs and Bible lessons.
Carol was always ready to listen to a great story and had a great laugh. She loved to entertain and host large family gatherings and reunions at her home. She decorated for these events with great enthusiasm. She loved dressing up her concrete goose in the front yard in custom holiday outfits. She loved to play in the pool with the family. She was an avid reader of romance novels and liked to crochet. We will miss her great cooking and many fantastic dishes.
In compliance with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the CDC’s health and public safety directives, the funeral services for Mrs. Carol York will be private with burial in the St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Aurora, KY; Fr. Greg Trawick will officiate.
