Lady Marshals win Fourth District title

The Lady Marshals are the 2020 Fourth District Tournament champions following Thursday’s 56-45 win over Calloway County.

For the first time in six years, the Lady Marshals cut down the nets after winning the Fourth District Tournament Championship 56-45 over Calloway County and it marks the 28th district title in program history.

Led in the win by Jada Driver with 22 points on 7-of-11, hitting all three of the Lady Marshals made 3-pointers. Driver was one of just three Lady Marshals scoring all 56 points along with 18 points by Cayson Conner and Halle Langhi with 16. Charlee Settle led Calloway County with 23 points and 21 rebounds.

Driver’s first three of the game tied it 3-3 early in the first quarter followed up by a basket by Langhi that put them up 5-3. A three from Adison Hicks put the Lady Lakers back  on top at 6-5 and they led 14-11 at the end of the first frame.

Free throws by Driver cut Calloway County’s lead down to one point to open the second quarter but that’s as close as it would get, staying within three points then two at 21-19 on a basket by Conner before the Lady Lakers scored the final four points of the half to take their largest lead of the game at 25-19.

The Lady Marshals trailed 30-25 in the third quarter before a 5-0 run on a basket by Conner and 3-pointer by Driver tied the game up at 30. Settle put the Lady Lakers back up by two and it was tied again on a basket by Langhi. They took their first lead since early in the game when Conner found Langhi wide-open under the goal for the go-ahead basket at 34-32, a lead they held the remainder of the game.

Calloway County cut a six-point deficit down to four at 45-41 in the fourth quarter but from there, the Lady Marshals out-scored the Lady Lakers 12-4 to finish out the win.

Both teams will advance to next week’s Region I Tournament at Murray State’s CFSB Center.
