Livingston Central ends Eagles 7-game win streak

Andrew Allen, setting the offense up for CFS, led the Eagles against Livingston Central with 17 points and was 9 of 10 from the free throw line.

Christian Fellowship’s seven-game win-streak came to an end Tuesday night in Smithland when they fell 54-49 to Livingston Central. The Eagles won the first meeting 70-59 over the Cardinals on Jan. 23. The win marked just the second for Livingston Central this season whose only other victory came on Jan. 27 when they beat Fort Campbell in overtime after losing the first 19 games.

Livingston began the game on a 7-0 lead that was cut back to one on two straight 3-pointers from Ari Phillips followed by a couple of free throws by Luke Grigg that gave the Eagles their first lead at 8-7. They finished off their 12-0 run with baskets from Andrew Allen and Grigg to go up 12-7 before Livingston’s Max Downey cut the lead back to two points with a three. Phillips dropped in his third three of the first quarter to go up 15-10 and they held the five-point lead up 20-15 at the end of the quarter.

A tight second quarter saw two ties and three lead changes with Livingston taking a one-point 29-28 lead into halftime. The Cardinals run to take the lead was led by Downey who hit two threes and two technical free throws in the quarter.

Livingston out-scored the Eagles 18-11 in the third quarter, taking the largest lead of the game of 11 points at 43-32. CFS cut the lead to eight to end the quarter, getting points from Grigg, Andrew Dunning and Phillips.

CFS trimmed Livingston’s lead to two points at 51-49 with 1:05 remaining in the game. With the clock ticking down, CFS had several fouls to give before they could get the Cardinals to the line and hope for an opportunity to get the ball and score. With 35 seconds to go, three players went to the line for Livingston with three free throws finding the net to win by five.

CFS (14-8) will play Friday at home against Fort Campbell in a Senior Night double-header that gets underway at 6:00.
