Marshals pick up seventh straight win, 65-56 over Tilghman

Much like their first meeting on Jan. 14 when the Marshals trailed Paducah Tilghman until 2:46 in the third quarter and went on to win 75-70, Friday ran true to the same script. The Marshals trailed  Tilghman until the 4:35 mark in the third quarter when they took a 32-30 lead on their way to a 65-56 win. Both wins mark the first time since the 2013-14 season the Marshals have swept regular season games against Tilghman.

In the first quarter, a three from Eli Brown gave Tilghman a 9-2 lead while a second foul was given to Marshall County’s Zion Harmon. Tyler Stokes and Tyler Powell cut Tilghman’s lead to three points but they trailed by seven before a final buzzer beater three from Harmon cut it to four points at 17-13.

Jahiem Concentine opened the second quarter with a three to put the Blue Tornado up 20-13, the Marshals able to cut it back to a three point game at 22-19 on a couple of baskets by Stokes and one from Harmon. Stokes scored the final basket of the quarter to lead the Marshals with 12 points in the half and they headed to the locker room down 27-24.

Stokes scored out of the half to cut Tilghman’s lead to one but it was back to four points on a 3-pointer from Jackson Goodwin. Harmon scored the next four points to tie the game at 30-30 and they took the lead for good on a basket by Bryce Flatt. Harmon scored 15 of the Marshals 22 third quarter points on his way to 31 in the game.

Leading 46-39 heading into the fourth quarter, the Marshals took their largest lead of the game by 12 at 52-44. Tilghman cut it back to five points with 1:14 remaining but free throws in the final minute, four by Powell and two from Harmon sealed the nine-point win.

Behind Harmon’s 31 points, Stokes scored 18 and Powell 12. Brown led Tilghman with 17 points Micheal Laster had 15. It was the seventh straight win for the Marshals who improve to 14-9 while Tilghman drops to 13-8. Marshall County will go for their eighth straight win on Saturday at MCHS in the Super Bowl Classic against Warren East (3-15) at 5:30.
