
Marshall County played two games in McCracken County’s Mustang Madness, splitting with a 77-70 loss to Callaway, Miss. on Friday and picking up a 77-46 win over Lyon County in a noon game on Saturday.
Callaway’s Class of 2021 star, Daeshun Ruffin, led with 31 points in the win over the Marshals. Hoopfest fans had a chance to see Ruffin play twice in December where he scored 37 points in both of Callaway’s game – the 82-75 loss to Chicago Curie and in their 65-44 win over Lausanne Collegiate out of Memphis.
The Marshals rallied back from a seven point deficit at the end of the first quarter to tie the game at 35-35 at halftime. Callaway led by one at the end of the third quarter, going on to out-score the Marshals by eight in the fourth quarter to win by seven.
Zion Harmon led Marshall County with 30 points, half of those coming from beyond the arc and was 7/9 from the free throw line along with seven assists. Tyler Powell had 18 points and Jay Nimmo 12. From three point range, Powell was 4/5 and Nimmo 4/6.

The Marshals played Lyon County (8-5) at noon on Saturday and after trialing by one point at the end of the first quarter, picked up the offense considerably to out-score the Lyons 63-31 in the next three quarters on their way to a 77-46 win.
Tyler Stokes scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds, earning Player of the Game honors. Zion Harmon had 21 points in the win along with seven assists.
Lyon County led 15-11 late in the first quarter, six points coming from sophomore Jackson Shoulders, but a three before the buzzer by Stokes cut the Lyons lead to one. The Marshals out-scored the Lyons 22-9 in the second quarter to lead 36-24 at halftime. Stokes led the scoring in the quarter with 13 points, Nimmo added six on two consecutive threes and a final 3-pointer by Harmon before the buzzer.
An opening second half basket by eighth grader Travis Perry who had 15 points for Lyon County, was followed by a 12-0 Marshall County run, fueled by Harmon with 10 points. Harmon sank his third three of the quarter to put the Marshals up 51-27, their largest lead of the game to that point, and finished off with his fourth for a 57-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Marshals dropped in four of their 14 made 3-pointers of the game in the fourth quarter, two by Chase Riley and one each from Powell and Harmon on their way to a 31 point win.
Marshall County (7-8) will get another chance at McCracken County on Friday in a double-header with the Lady Marshals. The Mustangs pulled off a 63-59 come from behind victory over the Marshals in their first meeting this season on Dec. 13.
