
In their last regular season game, the Lady Marshals beat McCracken County 5-0, recording their 14th shutout which ties the school record for shutouts in a season. In their 20 regular season games, the Lady Marshals have held their opponents to a total of 12 goals and will head into next week’s district tournament with a record of 14-2-4.
Tuesday against McCracken County, the Lady Marshals led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Carmen Gunn with an assist from Tori Ford. Four second half goals came from Gunn assisted by Chasse Clark, Jennifer Devore with the assist to Whitley Watwood, Gunn and Kelsey Crass unassisted.
In the shutout, Carlen Whirley had three saves and McCracken County keeper Karsyn Allard had 12. The Lady Marshals out shot the Lady Mustangs 26-6.
Saturday at Owensboro Catholic, the Lady Marshals beat the Lady Aces 3-1. After a scoreless first half for both teams, Marshall County’s Hope Howard scored off a corner three minutes into the second half on a Kallen Fuller assist. Five minutes later they went up 2-0 on a goal by Carmen Gunn. Owensboro Catholic got on the board with a goal by Ashton Logsdon and with five minutes remaining, Hope Howard’s goal gave the Lady Marshals the 3-1 win.
Whirley and Owensboro Catholic keeper Megan Goodwin each had four saves. The Lady Marshals out shot the Lady Aces 10-6.
The District Tournament begins Monday at Mayfield. The Lady Marshals will play the winner of the Mayfield-Murray game on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 5:30.
