Cadiz, KY (December 3 2018) – On December 3, 2018, at approximately 05:18 a.m. Kentucky State Police Detective Cory Hamby arrested James W. Gentry, 43 of Hopkinsville, KY for his role in the death of Keith “Joey” Hayes Jr, 35 of Hopkinsville, KY. Gentry was charged with Murder and is currently lodged in the Christian County Jail. Gentry had previously been arrested on November 30, 2018 for Receiving Stolen Property and Tampering with Physical Evidence, by KSP in relation to the murder investigation.

Gracey, KY (November 29, 2018)- The Kentucky State Police received a call from the Trigg County Dispatch about a deceased person off Buffalo Road at approximately 12:53 P.M on November 28, 2018. KSP Detectives responded to the scene and started an investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed foul play. An autopsy was performed today at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville. The preliminary autopsy results show that Keith “Joey” Hayes Jr, 35 of Hopkinsville, KY died from multiple gunshot wounds. Hayes had been reported missing since Tuesday, November 27 2018 from Christian County. Through the investigation, KSP feels this is an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.
The investigation continues by KSP Detective Cory Hamby. KSP was assisted on scene by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Cadiz Police Department, Trigg County EMS, and Trigg County Coroner’s Office.
