CFSB announces annual scholarship winners

CFSB is proud to announce the recipients of annual scholarships to students at Christian Fellowship School and Marshall County High School.

The annual CFS Eagle Scholar is a scholarship awarded from CFSB to a student at Christian Fellowship School meeting certain criteria including, but not limited to, grade-point average, college entrance exam scores, class rank and community/church activities.

The 2017-2018 CFS Eagle Scholar is Jordan Philip Haley, son of Susan Haley. Jordan has been active as the treasurer for both the Bible and Beta Clubs, also a member of History Club and Concert Choir. He was named Captain of the CFS Track and Field team, Captain, MVP and KHSAA State Qualifier of the Cross Country team as well as a member of the Tennis and Archery teams. Jordan was selected for All-District Choir and Outstanding Student in Choir (Highest GPA). He volunteers as a server at the World Mission and Evangelism Benefit Dinner and the Nashville Bridge Ministry. He has been active with Mapleview Community Church Community Service Projects. Jordan plans are to attend Murray State University and major in Pre-Veterinary Medicine.

The Marshall County High School Scholarship Scoreboard is a scholarship awarded to recipients meeting certain criteria including, but not limited to, grade-point average, college entrance exam scores, class rank and extra-curricular activities. The dollar amount of this scholarship involves the culmination of monies being added up for every Marshall County Football First Down ($4), Marshall County Soccer Goals ($5), Marshall County Basketball Three Point Shots ($3) and Kasasa K’s (Strikeouts by MCHS Pitchers) in Baseball and Softball ($3) as advertised during athletic events aired on marshallcountydaily.com, 99.1 FM/1290 AM WCBL and 95.7 FM WCCK Radio. The total is then divided into four scholarship categories-Academic Female, Athletic Female, Academic Male and Athletic Male.

The 2017-2018 MCHS Scoreboard Scholarship recipients are:

Girls Academic: Savannah G. Hunt, daughter of Ginger Hunt. Savannah has been active with the Marching Marshals as Freshman Representative, Assistant Drum Major, Head Drum Major and Woodwinds Captain. She was selected to All-District Band, All District Symphonic Band, Quad State Band, Jazz Band and the Paducah Symphony Orchestra Camp. Savannah has been on the Speech Team, American Legion Auxiliary for Kentucky Girls State and was named to the Governor’s Scholars Program. She plans to continue her education at the University of Kentucky College of Engineering and major in Chemical Engineering.

Girls Athletic: Audrey E. Grizzard, daughter of Cliff and Amy Grizzard. Audrey has been a member of the MCHS Track and Field and Mountain Biking teams. Her club involvement includes Marshall Militia, Rotary/Interact Club, Vice President of the Student Council, FBLA Treasurer and Student Leadership Club. She has volunteered with the Rotary Club, Land Between the Lakes and the Red Cross. Audrey plans to attend the University of Kentucky/Bluegrass Community and Technical College and major in Business.

Boys Academic: Jared D. Phelps, son of Rebecca and David Phelps. Jared has been active with the Future Business Leaders of America and The Bank of Marshall Nation, sponsored by CFSB. He has volunteered with Mission 615 Neighborhood Outreach, Nashville Bridge Ministry and Marcella’s Kitchen. He is active with the First Christian Church: Disciples of Christ Youth Group. Jared’s plans are to attend the University of Kentucky and major in Marketing.

Boys Athletic: Dalton F. Andersson, son of Dee Dee and Jonerik Andersson. Dalton has been a member of the Marshals Baseball and Archery teams. He was selected as the male student representative for the MCHS Title IX committee. Dalton volunteers with SonRise Adventure Camp, and is a Nursery Aide and door greeter at New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. His club activities also include Skills USA, Centershot and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Dalton plans to attend Murray State University and major in Engineering Graphic Design and become a Compound Bow Designer.

CFSB also congratulates the winner of the annual Bank of Marshall Nation (BMN) Scholarship. This student must have participated in the Financial Services Class at MCHS, taught by Rebecca Phelps and sponsored by CFSB. The Bank of Marshall Nation (formerly Star Bank), in its 27th year of operation, is the student-run bank at Marshall County High School. In order to receive this scholarship, the student must show terrific leadership skills in this hands-on class. This year’s BMN Scholarship goes to Jameson Blain Bizzle, is the son of Donnie and Stephanie Youngblood and Travis and Jenny Bizzle. He served as President of the Bank of Marshall Nation. Blain was also a member of the Marshals Football and Baseball teams. He was selected by his peers and counselors at the Kentucky Boys State session in 2017 to attend Boys Nation in Washington, D.C. He plans to attend Murray State University’s Pre-Optometry program and the doctorate program at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.
