Russell Taylor Edwards and Alyssa Hubbard, along with alternate Marley Goheen, will represent Marshall County at the Governor’s School for the Arts.

Two Marshall County High School juniors have been selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Arts, and a third has been selected as an alternate for the program.

Russell Taylor Edwards, Alyssa Hubbard, and alternate Marley Goheen received the honors. The GSA Summer Program offers three weeks of intensive instruction in nine artistic disciplines: architecture and design, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theatre, new media, visual art and vocal music. All three MCHS students are pursuing instruction in creative writing.

Students participating in the program are immersed in a rigorous schedule of daily seminars, master classes, lectures, hands-on workshops and field trips. While each student specializes in one art form, all students participate in structured, interdisciplinary arts experiences designed to familiarize them with the joys and challenges of specialties other than their own. Summer program participants receive full tuition, room and board.

Acceptance to the program is determined by an initial application and recommendations, followed by a final round of auditions and reviews. This year, out of over 1,400 applications, 663 individuals were qualified to showcase their work in person, and 256 were selected to participate in the program.
