The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a moving work zone lane restriction on the U.S. Hwy. 45 Ohio River Bridge at Paducah on Wednesday morning, April 25, 2018.
This moving work zone lane restriction on the U.S. Hwy. 45 Ohio River to allow an annual walk-through inspection of the bridge structure.
This lane restriction is expected to be in place from about 8 a.m., to about 11 a.m., Wednesday.
Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers along a short section of the bridge deck. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
All Kentucky bridges get a detailed inspection every two years with long-span lane and river bridges getting an extra walk-through inspection annually.
The U.S. Hwy. 45 Ohio River Bridge, also known as the Brookport Bridge and the Irvin S. Cobb Bridge, is at McCracken County U.S. Hwy. 45 mile point 12.882. The 10-span bridge carries approximately 5,000 vehicles across the river each day between Paducah and Brookport, Illinois. The 5,385 ft. structure at Ohio River navigation mile point 937.3 was opened to traffic in 1929. Due to deck width the bridge is currently restricted to vehicles no more than 8 feet wide, which prohibits most commercial trucks.
