Marshall County hosted the 22nd Annual Invitational of the South track and field meet Saturday at Murray State University. Clarksville’s Northeast High School took first among the 20 girls teams, second went to Daviess County, third place McCracken County and Marshall County placed eighth. Marshall County’s boy’s team took first in a field of 21 teams, Northeast placed second and Paducah Tilghman third.
Among the girl’s meet highlights, Tilghman sprinter Valesha Watson was a double winner in the 100 and 200 meters, Marshall County’s Tori McCracken took first in the high jump, University Height’s Alli Cundiff won both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, Marshall County’s Audrey Grizzard second and Sydney Temple fourth in pole vault and Henderson County University of Kentucky signee Jaci Bickett won the pole vault event with 12-00.
Marshall County’s meet highlights in the boy’s events included Tanner Clough’s great showing in the 100 and 200 meters placing fourth and sixth, Cade Flatt placed first in the 800 meters, Jackson Brown placed fourth in the 110 high hurdles and first in the 300 high hurdles, Sam Lanham took fourth and Ethan McCarty sixth in the freshman 3200 meters, Caleb Pahl placed second and Bryce Ladd fourth in the pole vault, Aaron Reed fifth in triple jump and Zach Fiser second in the discus. Both the 4 x 400 freshman relay and 4 x 800 relay teams placed first.
University of Southern Indiana bound Titus Winders of Henry County, TN won both the 1600 and 3200 meter races with brother Silas, a sophomore, taking third in the 1600 and second in the 3200. The Marshall County team will compete at McCracken County tonight (Tuesday) at 5:00.
