Kentucky Highway Crews Prepared for Wintry Mix on Tuesday

Western Kentucky has a chance of some wintry mix developing in the morning hours on
Tuesday and continuing much of the day. At this time it appears temperatures will
remain at or near freezing.

With elevated pavement temperatures from warm weather the last few days, snow is not
likely to stick to pavement surfaces immediately. However, in areas with heavy snow
squalls or sleet, the intense winter precipitation may create slushy driving
conditions which equals hazardous driving conditions.

Some areas of Western Kentucky could see the wintry mix as early as 7:00 a.m., CDT.
However, most of the winter precipitation is expected to move across the region
starting around 9:00 a.m. Accumulations are expected to range from a dusting in
our westernmost counties to maybe 1 to 2 inches in the Pennyrile Region with higher
accumulations moving eastward across the state.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews will be prepared to respond as necessary.
Early-on, bridges and overpasses will be a main concern.

Motorists are asked to maintain a high level of awareness of localized driving
conditions and are urged to monitor the National Weather Service and/or local news
media outlets for weather forecast updates throughout the day. The snow and wintry
mix is expected to trail off before temperatures drop later in the day.

Motorists are advised to adapt driving speeds to localized pavement conditions.
Remember, just because the pavement is clear at one location doesn’t mean there
won’t be slick spots over the next hill or around the next turn.
