A Paducah man is recovering after he was struck Sunday following a car wreck on I-24.

According to McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded about 12:29 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7 to a wreck involving two passenger cars on I-24 near Exit 16 in Reidland. Deputies say Cody S. Thompson, 25, of Paducah and his passenger, Hayleigh D. Feagin, 24, of Murray, had driven down the westbound ramp of I-24 at the 16-mile marker when Thompson lost control of his Chevrolet Corvette, driving into the median and through the cable barrier system. The car came to a rest in the center of eastbound lanes of I-24, under the Benton Road overpass, police say.

Thompson, who reportedly feared the vehicle would be hit by oncoming traffic, exited the vehicle and was struck in the leg by a driver who approached the scene. The driver, Dustin L. Manley, 28, of Gilbertsville and his passenger Melanie L. Hodge, 28, of Marion, reportedly did not see Thompson’s dark-colored car until the last moment; Manley swerved to miss the vehicle and did, but struck Thompson and the cable barrier system.

Thompson was taken to a local hospital via Mercy Regional Ambulance Service for non-incapacitating injuries. No other injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

MCSD Deputies were assisted by Paducah Police Department, Reidland-Farley Fire Department and Meadows Towing. I-24 was closed for about one hour to facilitate the investigation and cleanup of debris.

The investigation remains ongoing.
