Deputies respond to more than 19,000 calls for service in 2017

Marshall County Sheriff’s report, Jan. 4, 2018:

Deputy Cory Curtner and other MCSO officers on Saturday, Dec. 30 responded to Main Street in Benton as back up units to the city police on a disturbance. (Other charges taken on incident by Benton PD.) Deputy Curtner charged Alex C. Kegel of Benton with possession of marijuana and cited him to appear in Marshall District Court later this month.

Deputy Chris Greenfield and Trooper Will Propes on Saturday, Dec. 30 were dispatched to Vanzora Road in reference to a suspicious van sitting in the roadway. When the officers arrived, they located the van and a male nearby. As a result of the investigation, they located another male hiding nearby. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the hiding male, Jason Carol Henson, 37, of Benton on an arrest warrant for failure to appear in Marshall Circuit Court. He was also charged with disorderly conduct as a result of his behavior during the arrest. The other male, Jason Mathus, 38, of Calvert City was arrested for hindering prosecution or apprehension 2nd degree for his hindrance in the arrest of Henson.

Deputy Cory Curtner on Saturday, Dec. 30 served an arrest warrant on Anthony G. Whitfield of Gilbertsville for failure to appear.

Deputy Chris Greenfield on Saturday, Dec. 30 served an arrest warrant on Stacey Leeann Gossum, 38, of Benton. The warrant stemmed from a Benton Police Department investigation and charged Gossum with leaving the scene of an accident.

Deputy Chris Greenfield on Sunday, Dec. 31 responded to Griggstown Road in reference to a hit and run collision. The victim, Callie Pearl, advised that she had been hit and provided identifying information on the vehicle and driver. Greenfield located the vehicle and driver nearby. The driver, Billy R. May, of Gilbertsville admitted to the accident and said he had left because he did not have a drivers license. As a result of the investigation, May was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident; failure of non-owner operator to maintain insurance;
failure to produce insurance card; and operating vehicle with expired operators license.

Deputy Jason Ivey on Jan. 2 responded to Tatumsvile Highway in reference to a disturbance. As a result of his investigation, Robert G. Long, 30, of Gilbertsville was arrested and charged with assault 4th degree.
