McCracken County Jailer indicted, arrested on suspicion of perjury

Tonya Ray

McCracken County Jailer Tonya Ray is facing perjury charges after investigators say she is suspected of lying in a hearing involving a former deputy jailer.

According to a Kentucky State Police news release, troopers arrested Ray, 43, of Paducah about 12:56 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 on suspicion of first-degree perjury after a McCracken County grand jury returned an indictment on Ray. She was taken to Christian County Jail, where she was held on a $20,000 cash bond.

According to KSP, investigators began looking into the truthfulness of her testimony in an October 2017 hearing on Deputy Jailer Ben Green. Immediately following Ray’s testimony, criminal charges against Green were dismissed, according to KSP.

The case will be prosecuted by Christian County Commonwealth Attorney Lynn Pryor, who was appointed as special prosecutor by the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
