US Census Bureau: Kentucky Sees Increase in Population

FRANKFORT, KY (Kentucky News Network) – According to new estimates from the Census Bureau, the resident population of Kentucky was just over 4,454,189, up from 4,436,974 one year ago.

That’s an increase of 0.4 percent from last year and a 2.6 percent jump from 2010.

Nationwide, Kentucky is the 26th largest state, falling one spot from a year ago as Louisiana jumped ahead of the Commonwealth.

Additionally, 88 percent of the population is Caucasian, there are 1,965,556 housing units in the state, veterans account for 289,837 residents and 3.5 percent of the population are foreign born.
