Work on installation of a new pre-fabricated aluminum arch culvert along KY 2606/Jackson School Road at milepoint 5.3 is complete, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The roadway reopened to traffic about noon Thursday, Dec. 21, after the initial Dec. 18 projections but well in advance of the Dec. 28 timeline anticipated thereafter.
The culvert carries a branch of Gibson Creek under KY 2606 at this site. It replaces an aging double corrugated metal culvert.
Motorists should be aware that the gravel surface placed on top of the arch culvert will be allowed to settle for several weeks before a temporary asphalt surfaces is added, KYTC said via news release. A more permanent asphalt surface will be added to the culvert sometime in the spring when weather allows.
Almost 900 vehicles travel this section of KY 2606/Jackson School Road in an average day.
