Marshall County High School’s culinary program has been recognized as a Sullivan Universities Elite 50 Program.
Sullivan University’s National Center for Hospitality Studies (NCHS) recognizes culinary programs at the high-school level and their achievements. To be considered for the NCHS Elite 50, programs must first have been tapped as a Hospitality program of distinction, which requires two years in place. Additional requirements to be considered for the Elite 50 include participation in state competitions and submitting original recipes or restaurant management design; additional consideration is given to programs that operate a restaurant or catering service, according to the Sullivan University website.
“The Elite 50 list is comprised of high schools and tech centers that excel in the areas of culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, and/or hospitality management,” the website states. “Some are state and national competition winners from ProStart, SkillsUSA and Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). We also conducted research to establish schools with strong hospitality enrollment and influence in their community. Included are many schools we specifically paid visits to that we deemed to have strong hospitality studies programs.”
The MCHS program, under the instruction of Amy Cathey, is one of four in Kentucky to be recognized on the Elite 50 list. MCHS participants in the program are Jesse Burgess, Staci Duncan, Alisha Fitzgerrel, Bailie Gipson, Erin Hicks, Gracey Howell, Tyler Ives, Dalton Kincannon, Patrick Lepore, Sydney Logothetis, Mikayla McKeough, Rayann Meredith, Brooke Riter, Skylar Sinnett, Liliana Stanton and Hannah Taylor.
