Two local law enforcement officials were recognized last week for their efforts in keeping impaired drivers off the road.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chris Greenfield and Calvert City Police Officer Wes Babcock were among those recognized at the Governor’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Awards Wednesday in Lexington. Babcock was among 75 officers, patrolmen and deputies in Division 1 recognized as first in their agency in number of DUI arrests.

Greenfield won among MCSO deputies and ranked second among 55 Division 2 agencies statewide, with 57 DUI arrests this year. According to MCSO, Greenfield and Sheriff Kevin Byars traveled to Lexington for the awards ceremony, where he was presented with a commemorative Louisville Slugger and ball as a Kentucky Highway Safety “All Star.”

Awards were presented to officers with the most impaired-driving arrests in each agency and Highway Safety All-Star awards were presented to the top three in each division. This year’s ceremony recognized more than 200 officers in 185 agencies across the state.

The KOHS, Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement agencies are partnering for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday enforcement campaign running through Jan. 1. The campaign is funded through NHTSA, which says high-visibility enforcement reduces impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent.
