Calvert man arrested after threatening to burn local church

A Calvert City man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to burn down a local church.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on Wednesday to Zion’s Cause Baptist Church on U.S. Highway 68 near Draffenville. Police say a man approached the church asking for money and became irate and aggressive, yelling at the secretary after he was informed the church had no money on site to give. According to MCSO, the suspect told the secretary he would return to set fire to the facility.

Police say the suspect, identified as Dustin M. Wright, 24, of Calvert City, was arrested some time later at St. Pius Catholic Church in Calvert City as he was again asking the church for money.

Wright was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening and taken to Marshall County Detention Center in Benton.
