Lady Marshals in district championship game, advance to regional tournament

After a two year absence from the regional tournament, the Lady Marshals are back in with Tuesday’s 5-1 win over Calloway County in the 2nd District Tournament at Graves County. They will play the winner of tonight’s game between Murray and Graves County in the championship game on Thursday at 5:30.

Calloway County scored first seven minutes in on a goal by Kirsten Houston before the Lady Marshals first goal came 11 minutes later by Lindy King. At 17:30 in the first half, Bailey Wood curled a corner kick into the net to give the Lady Marshals a 2-1 lead and with eight minutes left in the half, Kylee Crass made it a 3-1 game.

Less than five minutes into the second half, a goal by Carmen Gunn put the Lady Marshals up 4-1 with the final goal of the game coming off the foot of Wood on an assist by King.

The Lady Marshals had 23 shots in the game, 18 on goal and held the Lady Lakers to just two shots on goal. Carlen Whirley had one save.
