Benton woman charged following single-car crash

A Benton woman is facing charges, after police say she was involved in an accident while driving under the influence.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded at 4:39 p.m. Friday to a single-car crash at the intersection of Blandville Road and North Gum Springs Road. Police allege that Amber Thayer, 39, of Benton, was driving west in a 2010 Chrysler 300 when her vehicle left the road, traveling through a ditch and striking a power pole before coming to a rest in a nearby wooded area.

Thayer was taken to a local hospital by ambulance for non-incapacitated injuries.

Police reports indicate alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Thayer was charged on suspicion of DUI, operating on a DUI suspended license and failure to provide proof of insurance. She was cited to court and remained in the hospital.

Lone Oak Fire Department, Randy’s Towing, Mercy Regional EMS and DES assisted on scene.
