Western Kentucky residents can expect to see slightly cooler temperatures on the horizon but also heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, widely scattered thunderstorms will enter the region this afternoon; some of those storms are expected to “pulse up” and produce near severe hail and wind. NWS expects heavy rainfall and lightning to be primary concerns for the day, however.

“Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to move southeast into the region around midnight and then to near the Ohio River by daybreak,” the forecast states.

Storms are expected to continue throughout the evening and into the morning as a cold front approaches the region.

Forecasters do not anticipate activity strong enough to activate storm spotters, though the chance of thunderstorms will be higher through about Tuesday in western Kentucky and southeast Missouri, according to NWS.
