The Marshall County boys golf team began this week with two tournaments, Monday in the Owensboro Catholic Invitational and Tuesday at the Gator Invitational.
Monday at Owensboro Country Club, the Marshals finished 4th in the field of 12 teams with a team score of 325 on the par 72 course. McCracken County won the tournament with a score of 314, Daviess County second with 321 and Owensboro Catholic third with 322.
The Marshals were led by Jay Nimmo with a 7-over 79, Grant Hackney shot 80, Camdyn McLeod 82, Tyler Powell 84 and Nathan Clark 90.
Tuesday at the par 72 Bowling Green Country Club, the Marshals finished 9th among a field of 19 of the top teams in the state with a score of 318. The team title was won by St. Xavier with a team score of 292.
Jay Nimmo shot a 3-over 75 to lead the Marshals followed by Tyler Powell with 78, Grant Hackney 82, Camdyn McLeod 83 and Nathan Clark 91.
“We didn’t play some of our better golf in Owensboro but I was really proud of how we bounced back the second day in Bowling Green and played better against some of the best golfers in the state of Kentucky”, Coach Bell said, “I hope by playing in these types of tournaments helps to prepare us to perform well in our regional tournament. Our team goal is to get back to Bowling Green Country Club and compete in the state tournament for the third year in a row.
Bell said the team has proven they can play some really good golf by winning their first tournament of the year at the Best of the West and now just need to build on that and continue to work hard during the season.
“Jay Nimmo continues to lead our team but in high school golf you need four players with good scores also”, Bell said. “Tyler Powell, Grant Hackney, Camdyn McLeod and Nathan Clark are working hard to help provide those other three scores needed to succeed as a team.”
The Marshals finish out the week with a match Thursday at Calvert City Country Club against Murray and Trigg County and Saturday at the Dawson Springs Tournament at Pennyrile State Park.
