The National Weather Service in Paducah has continued its heat advisory for the area through Sunday.
According to NWS meteorologists, peak heat indices will range from 105-110 degrees today and Saturday. Potential thunderstorms on Sunday could limit heat indices to 100-105. Overnight lows will not provide much relief, either, reaching the mid 70s.
NWS reports say the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity increases the risk of heat-related illnesses. Small children and the elderly, as well as those without air conditioning or those participating in strenuous outdoor activities are most at risk.
Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in minutes, NWS warns.
NWS advises residents to stay out of the sun, and to check on relatives and friends without access to air-conditioning. Residents should drink plenty of fluids and stay inside air-conditioned areas if possible.
