Public Input Needed on Imported Fire Ants at LBL

LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES, KY/TN – June 29,2017 – An Environmental Assessment on the
treatment of fire ants is now complete and ready for public comment. In 2015, the US
Forest Service at Land Between the Lakes proposed treating imported fire ants across
the recreation area. Comments must be received by July 31, 2017.

“Imported fire ants deliver painful stings that can injure or kill wildlife,
domestic animals and humans,” says John Westbrook, Environmental Stewardship
Department Manager at Land Between the Lakes. “Their large mounds can cause damage
to agricultural equipment, structures, and electrical equipment. We want to get
input from the public on our proposed actions in dealing with fire ants across the
recreation area.”

The public is asked to read the Imported Fire Ant Environmental Assessment at
http://data.ecosystem-management.org/nepaweb/nepa_project_exp.php?project=45540. A
summary of the project is available at

Comments should be specific, within the scope of the proposed action, have a direct
relationship to the proposed action, and must include supporting reasons for the
responsible official to consider.
