Marshall County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists of new statute

As we see a lot of vehicles equipped with blue lights mounted on their vehicle we wanted to let everyone know a new law comes into effect this Thursday. The law no longer allows any blue light on a motor vehicle unless it is a law enforcement vehicle or in some cases a motorcycle.

KRS 189.950

Except as otherwise provided for in this section, a person shall not illuminate a
blue light that is affixed to a motor vehicle while operating the motor vehicle on
a highway. This subsection shall not apply to:
(a) Any light on a motorcycle that is not affixed to the front of the motorcycle;
or
(b) Nonhalogen headlamps that have a slight blue tint and meet United
States Department of Transportation regulations.

Deputies will start stopping vehicles for this by the end of this week. MCSD will start with written warnings until deputies believe that the information is out and then transition to citations.
