Man arrested after false shooting report

Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man this morning after he allegedly reported a shooting that did not take place.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Department reports, deputies responded about 2:14 a.m. Monday to Justin Lane near Tatumsville, after a 911 caller told dispatchers a woman had been shot. The caller also reported that he had been chased through the woods by the same assailant, according to MCSD.

Investigating officers from MCSD, Calvert City and Benton Police Department later discovered there had reportedly been no shooting, nor an assailant with a gun or knife. Interviews with others at the residence further indicated there had been no argument or gunshots, according to police.

Jerry D. Odom, 43, of Fredonia, was arrested on suspicion of falsely reporting an incident.

Police also discovered a man and woman hiding in the home in a closet and under a bed, according to reports. The man, identified as Christopher W. McKinley, 32, of Sturgis, was arrested on a Crittenden County warrant at the scene.
