Wanda Mae Smith, 83, of Benton went to rest in the arms of our Lord on February 26, 2017.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Reggie and Alice Byers, and brother, James Halon Byers.
She is survived by her loving husband and constant companion of 66 years Bobbie Frank Smith, her children Glenn Dale Smith (Brenda) of Lakeland, Florida and Melody Kay Shingler (Gary Wilson) of Grove City, Ohio, her devoted sister Linda Callahan (Charles) of Hardin, grandchildren J.D. Smith of North Carolina, D.J. and Matthew of Florida and Randy, Robert, and Ryan Shingler and Ali Weiss all of Ohio as well as 6 great-grandchildren Anna, Dorian, Jason, Evan, Elliott, and Paige.
Wanda is also survived by brother-in-laws Tom (Mary) and Tony Smith of Benton and sister-in-law Mary Katherine Owens (David) of Texas as well as 7 nieces, 4 nephews, many cousins, and close friend Sharon Smith.
Wanda was a faithful servant of God and an active member of Palma United Methodist Church. She was born on July 1, 1933 in Calloway County, Kentucky. She went to live in the Detroit area when she married the love of her life on July 1, 1950. Other than the years she spent as a military wife from 1951 to 1955 she remained in the Detroit area until 1985 when she returned home to Hardin. While in Michigan, Wanda raised her two children, made many friends, and was employed as a school bus driver for Dearborn Heights District 7.
A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Collier Funeral Chapel located at 211 West 5th St. Benton, Kentucky 42025 with Rev. Bob Cain officiating.
Interment will follow in Cole Cemetery, Benton, KY.
Visitation will be held between the hours of 5:00 p.m .and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Collier Funeral Home.
