Mr. Donald James Phillips, 91, of Benton, KY, formerly of Corning, AR, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at Lake Way Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Benton, KY. Mr. Phillips was born in Biggers, AR., on August 16, 1925. He was a retired store manager at Thomas Hardware, he also owned and operated Don’s Small Engine Repair for many years in Corning, AR. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Corning Church of Christ, serving as elder and deacon for 52 consecutive years.
He married his wife of 73 years Mrs. Hallie Mildred (Jackson) Phillips on April 17, 1943. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2016. He is survived by his two sons Jack Phillips and wife Michaella of Gilbertsville, KY., Jim Phillips and wife Margaret of Kincaid, IL.; four grandchildren Jerree and husband Ron Harris, Margaret and husband David Darnall, Joshua Phillips and wife Janette, Nathan Phillips and wife Whitney; six great-grandchildren Hailey, Cloe, Levi, Joel, Evan, Bria; two brothers Doernal R. Phillips of Muskogee, OK., Bill Phillips of Houston, TX.; one sister Catherine Seagraves of Van Buren, MO.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lemay Albertis Bud and Lula Blanch (McCall) Phillips; three brothers L.A. Phillips, Delbert Phillips and Harold Lee Phillips.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 12:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel Jim, Jack and Joshua Phillips officiating. Burial will follow the services at Richwoods Cemetery in Corning. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
