PADUCAH – Region 1 basketball doesn’t usually disappoint on any given night, especially with the region seemingly up for grabs this season, and district wins all too important just to get there and be in the mix.
Tilghman and Marshall have split games this season with the Marshals winning at home and the Tornados taking the win 80-70 in overtime on their home court Friday.
Three of the first five field goals in the game were 3-pointers by Houston Harvey, Matt French and Tilghman’s Joe Workman that gave the Tornados a 7-6 lead. Tilghman led by as much a five before the Marshals tied it 14-14 on a basket by Skyler Smith. Free throws from DeCoven Grubbs put Tilghman back up 16-14 to end the first quarter.

The Marshals finished out the quarter on a 7-0 run punctuated by a three at the buzzer by Smith to trail by three, 53-50.

Missed free throws and turnovers hurt the Marshals in the first half of the fourth quarter and they fell behind 60-54 when Reed scored and drew the foul adding three more to the Marshals point total to pull them to within three. That was followed by free throws from Dylan Walters that cut Tilghman’s lead to 60-59 with 2:17 left in the game.
