(Benton, KY)-High School basketball teams participating in this weekend’s Gunner’s Magic Train Shootout at Marshall County’s Reed Conder Gymnasium will be wearing specially designed socks that honor the life and memory of Gunner Gillespie. Gillespie, who bravely fought an inoperable brain tumor, passed from this life at age 8. Gunner was the son of the Marshall County Marshals Boys Basketball Head Coach Gus Gillespie and wife, teacher at MCHS Janna. He was also the big brother to his sister, Garlynn.
After a tremendous outpouring of love for the family, the Gillespies decided to start a foundation in Gunner’s memory to “pay it forward.” The Gunner’s Magic Train Foundation assists families that have been given the difficult news that cancer is affecting their loved one. The foundation hosts numerous fundraisers each year in order to continue on their mission of helping other families while advocating for more research to eradicate pediatric cancers.
The socks that will be on display on the court this weekend will be available as well for sale (while supplies last) at the Gunner’s Magic Train Foundation booth in Reed Conder Gymnasium during the Shootout. CFSB donated these socks to the teams and Foundation to assist in fundraising efforts as Gunner’s Magic Train rolls on laying tracks for a cure!
